Methylene Chloride Cleaning Solvent CH2CL2

Dichloromethane is a volatile, clear, colorless liquid with a sweet odor. Other common names for dichloromethane are methylene chloride and DCM.

Dichloromethane is used as a blowing agent in the furniture industry, as well as an aerosol solvent, in the production of pharmaceuticals, and as a degreasing agent in the electronics and manufacturing industries.

 

DCM Applications

        

 

1) Used as a solvent in paint strippers and removers.
2) Used as a process solvent in the manufacture of medicines and pharmaceuticals, and as a finishing solvent.
3) Used for film coating and metal cleaning.
4) Used as a blowing agent for urethane foam.
5) Used as a propellant in aerosols, such as paints, automotive products, and insect repellents.
6) Used as an extraction solvent for spice oleoresins.
7) Used as a separation agent and detergent.

 

Handling precautions: Avoid generating droplets during handling and use appropriate personal protective equipment. Prevent released vapors and mists from entering the air in the work area. Work in a well-ventilated area and use the minimum amount necessary. Emergency response equipment must be available to fight fires and handle spills. Hazardous residues may remain in empty storage containers. Do not use this product near welding operations, open flames, or hot surfaces.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Store away from heat, flames, and incompatible materials such as strong oxidizers, strong acids, and nitric acid. Store in an appropriately labeled container. Unused containers and empty pails must be tightly sealed. Avoid damaging containers and periodically inspect storage drums for defects such as ruptures or leaks. Containers are galvanized or lined with phenolic synthetic resin to reduce the risk of methylene chloride decomposition. Limit storage quantities. Post warning signs where appropriate. The storage area should be separated from densely populated work areas, and personnel access to the area must be restricted. Use hoses approved for handling toxic substances when discharging the material. The substance can accumulate static electricity and is flammable. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
