FK-5-1-12 is an important alternative to halon fire extinguishing agents. It is a compound of the fluorinated ketone family. It is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid that is super pressurized with nitrogen and used as a fire extinguishing system. Some are stored in high-pressure gas bottles. FK-5-1-12's chemical structure is the same as 3M's NOVEC 1230 firefighting fluid.
It is electrically non-conductive, non-corrosive and leaves no residue behind after a system discharge. In addition to being safe for your local environment, FK-5-1-12 has a low impact on the global environment, with no ozone depleting potential and a global warming potential of one – the lowest of any chemical fire suppressant.
