REACH registered FK-5-1-12 Fire Protection Fluid is based on a proprietary chemical from 3M called a fluroroketone. The full chemical name for this compound is dodecafluoro-2-methylpentan-3-one.

 FK-5-1-12 gas can be used as coolant for electronic equipment and protection gas for light metal smelting. It can also be used to replace sulfur hexafluoride for transformer protection.
