SMT Reflow Soldering is the core process used to solder Surface Mount Technology components onto a Printed Circuit Board. (SMT is short for surface mount technology).

Step 1: Solder Paste Printing
A stencil is aligned over the PCB, and solder paste (a mixture of tiny solder balls and flux) is printed onto the exact pads where components will sit.
Step 2: Component Placement
A pick-and-place machine rapidly and accurately positions SMT components onto the solder paste deposits.
Step 3: Reflow Heating (The "Reflow" Phase)
The assembled PCB travels through a multi-zone reflow oven on a conveyor. It undergoes a carefully controlled temperature profile:
Preheat: The board gradually heats to activate the flux.
Soak: Temperature stabilizes, allowing the entire board to heat evenly and the flux to clean the metal surfaces.
Reflow (Peak): Temperature quickly rises past the solder's melting point (typically 217°C+ for lead-free). The solder paste melts, becomes liquid, wets the component leads and PCB pads, and forms a metallurgical bond.
Cooling: The board cools, allowing the solder joints to solidify and become permanent, reliable electrical and mechanical connections.
Step 4: Result
The output is a completed PCBA, ready for final testing and integration into a product.
