1. R290 Basic information
Chinese name: propane
Molecular formula: C3H8
Molecular weight: 44.10
Appearance and properties: colorless gas, pure odorless
Solubility: slightly soluble in water, soluble in ether, ethanol
2. Physical and chemical properties of R290
Flash point (℃) : -104
Explosion limit %(V/V) : 9.5
Lower limit of explosion %(V/V) : 2.1
Relative density (air =1) : 1.56
Heat of combustion (kJ/mol) : 2217.8
Ignition temperature (℃) : 450~470
3. Safe use
Health hazards: simple asphyxiation and anesthesia effect. Brief human exposure to 1% propane does not cause symptoms; Concentrations below 10% cause only mild dizziness; Anesthesia and loss of consciousness may occur when exposed to high concentration. Very high concentrations can cause asphyxia. Flammable gas, which can form explosive mixtures when mixed with air and is dangerous of combustion and explosion when exposed to heat and open flame.
The disadvantage of R290 as a refrigerant is the flammability of R290 (compressor, condenser, evaporator, pipeline and other parts of the refrigeration system may cause leakage of working medium, and electronic components such as temperature controller, compressor relay, lamp, defrost button may be ignition source).
