On the afternoon of August 9, an explosion occurred on a Yangming Shipping container ship "YM MOBILITY" docked at the Beilun Port Container Terminal in Zhoushan Port, Ningbo, Zhejiang. The scene was blazed and the container was instantly blown to pieces.
This accident will cause huge indirect losses to the ship owner's shipping schedule and cargo owners. In particular, the impact on shipping schedules caused by the berthing diversion of ships at the terminal due to accidents. After this incident, maritime affairs, customs, shipping companies, and ports may become more stringent in compliance operations regarding dangerous goods.

On the same day, the reporter learned at the scene of the container explosion incident at Ningbo Zhoushan Port that the "Dongming" ship where the container exploded was registered as Liberian and was a transit ship bound for Jakarta, Indonesia from Shanghai. There were 20 crew members on the ship and all were safe. Relevant departments initially determined that the explosives included tert-butyl peroxide and lithium batteries.
Data show that tert-butyl peroxybenzoate is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid. Non-toxic, flammable and explosive items, which need to be stored sealed in a cool, ventilated environment. Keep away from fire and heat sources and avoid direct sunlight. The storage temperature should not exceed 30℃.
In order to learn lessons from the accident, draw inferences from one instance and resolutely prevent such accidents from happening again, the following requirements are put forward:
All units must strengthen the safety management of dangerous goods on board, focusing on packaging dangerous goods that are inflammable and explosive and require temperature control such as Category 1, 2.1, 3, 4.1, and 5.2. The temperature of the goods such as ammonium nitrate is not high when loading. For bulk solid dangerous goods with a temperature of 40°C, gasoline and other bulk oils with a closed cup flash point lower than 60°C, Chapter 17 of the International Code for the Structure and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk requires the cargo tank to be inerted or have a closed cup flash point. Management of dangerous goods such as bulk chemicals and bulk liquefied natural gas below 60℃.
All shipping companies must continue to improve the safety management system for dangerous goods on board, strengthen the booking management of dangerous goods, strictly review technical information on cargo safety, strengthen safe operation management during ship navigation, berthing, and operation, especially the stowage and isolation of dangerous goods. , Inspection of specific goods and emergency drills to accurately grasp the stowage location of dangerous goods and corresponding emergency response measures.
