 In the semiconductor industry:

The mixture of octafluoropropane gas C3F8 and oxygen is used as plasma etching material, which will selectively react with the metal matrix of silicon wafers. It has a sufficient residence time in the blood vessels and can be used as a blood cell tracer to reflect the blood perfusion of organs without interfering with hemodynamics.

C3F8 is also an inert gas used in ophthalmic surgery, which has the effect of stabilizing intraocular pressure and promoting wound healing.

 In the industrial field:

C3F8 is utilized in refrigeration systems due to its thermodynamic properties, offering efficient cooling performances.

The main methods for preparing gas C3F8 are:

1.using activated carbon and high-concentration fluorine gas as raw materials, reacting in a reactor under certain temperature conditions, and obtaining a crude product through dust removal, alkali washing, dehydration and other processes, and then obtaining a high-purity product through distillation, adsorption, dehydration and other processes;

2.using hexafluoropropylene as the raw material, and obtaining it through an addition reaction;

3. extracting it from the by-products of the preparation of fluorocarbon gases such as carbon tetrafluoride (CF4).
