404a refrigerant is a type of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerant commonly used in commercial refrigeration systems, such as supermarket refrigerators and freezers. 404a refrigerant is a blend of three different HFCs: R125, R143a, and R134a. R404 has been used as a replacement for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), which were phased out due to their harmful effects on the ozone layer. 404A has a high global warming potential (GWP) and is being phased out in some countries due to its contribution to climate change. Alternatives with lower GWPs are being developed and adopted, such as R448A and R449A.
