Heat absorption as primary suppression mechanism

When liquid heptafluoropropane transitions into gas, it absorbs large amounts of thermal energy. This pulls temperature below the ignition threshold of combustible materials and stops flame propagation quickly.

Minor chemical interruption of combustion radicals

Apart from cooling, heptafluoropropane disrupts free radical chain reactions within flames. This secondary chemical effect reinforces fire knockdown, though it is less dominant compared with the cooling effect.

Limited by-product generation only under high heat

If exposed to intense flame, heptafluoropropane clean agent will create trace hydrofluoric acid. This by-product level stays low when fire detection activates early. Early fire detection is strongly recommended to minimise formation of acidic by-products inside the protected room.

 

Not all heptafluoropropane batches are suitable for FM200 clean fire suppression projects. Buyers must check these specs before confirming orders.

Controlled moisture and acidic impurities

Water and acidic contaminants will degrade valve seals over long cylinder storage. heptafluoropropane maintains strict limits on moisture and acidity, protecting hardware integrity for years.

Non-condensable gas limit

Excess non-condensable gas can disrupt agent vaporisation and change discharge behaviour. Every production lot is tested to keep non-condensable gas within acceptable thresholds for clean agent suppression.

Full analytical documentation per batch

Each shipment includes COA to verify all key indicators. Fire inspectors often require these documents to approve commissioning of FM200 clean fire suppression systems.

 

When integrating this clean suppression agent into fire suppression hardware, material compatibility checks should be completed at design phase.

Metals

Carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and aluminium show stable performance with heptafluoropropane. These metals are commonly used for cylinders, pipework, valve bodies and manifolds.

Elastomers and sealing materials

Some rubber and polymer seals may swell or degrade under long contact. Seal suppliers should confirm compatibility with heptafluoropropane FM200 before assembly.

Sensitive electronic surfaces

Vaporised FM200 clean agent does not leave deposits on circuit boards, relays or optical sensors. This compatibility makes it the preferred clean agent suppression option for high-value electrical assets.

 

Class A fires: solid combustibles

Paper, wood, plastic insulation and other solid fuels can be suppressed by heptafluoropropane, as long as the design concentration and enclosure hold time meet code requirements.

Class B fires: flammable liquids and vapours

Oil, hydraulic fluid, solvent vapour fires are common targets for heptafluoropropane FM200 clean agent. It can knock down liquid fuel fires without spreading burning liquids.

Class C fires: energised electrical fires

The non-conductive feature of heptafluoropropane allows safe use for live electrical equipment fires, which is the largest application of this clean agent suppression product.

 

Not effective for reactive metal fires

Heptafluoropropane FM200 cannot suppress fires from magnesium, lithium metal and other reactive metals. These hazards need alternative fire protection solutions.

Enclosure tightness is mandatory

Even high-purity heptafluoropropane will fail clean agent suppression if the room has large air leaks. Hold time testing must be done during commissioning.

Environmental footprint and regional restrictions

FM200 clean agent has zero ozone depletion potential, yet it carries GWP values. HFC phasedown policies across many regions affect import quotas and long-term refill availability. Facility owners need to review local regulations for multi-year asset planning.
